Walter P Moore: Hurricane Harvey Emergency Flood Modeling for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

Walter P Moore was contacted by University of Texas at Arlington and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during Hurricane Harvey to assist the Texas Department of Emergency Management.

The purpose of the study was to provide inundation mapping to TDEM to understand the breadth of flooding in order to deploy emergency services to the most critical areas. Using flood modeling software, Walter P Moore updated the inundation mapping daily employing real-time rainfall data provided by UTA. The maps were then loaded onto the TDEM website for application. All information was quality controlled and calibrated against Harris County stream gauges.
