RPS: Critical Infrastructure Repairs & Revitalization for Harris County Public Infrastructure

The Washburn Tunnel, a historic landmark appearing on the National Register, was completed in 1950 and is one of two tunnels that exist in Texas, with the added distinction of being the largest and first underground toll-free tunnel in the state. As the ½ mile tunnel provides egress from I-10/Highway 225 under the Houston Ship Channel, incidences of underground water leakage, concrete spalling, and future maintenance concerns were paramount. Critical infrastructure repairs and revitalization as well as innovative thinking in the wake of Hurricane Harvey have served to keep the tunnel in full operational order with safety top of mind for years to come.
