Congestion Alleviation

Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam: University Boulevard Extension for the City of Sugar Land

The University Boulevard Extension provides a critical connection to US 90A, diverting traffic from neighborhood surface streets and alleviating congestion on State Highway 6. The project team overcame difficult soil conditions, satisfied the requirements of private and public stakeholders, and designed an aesthetically pleasing roadway that serves residents and businesses. By 2025, the extension will increase capacity in University Boulevard by 12,000 vehicles a day. It also provides greater access to major employer Nalco Champion and ties into the city’s baseball stadium. The $21 million project was constructed within budget and completed two years ahead of the projected 2020 schedule.
