HDR Engineering: San Pedro Creek Improvements for the San Antonio River Authority

The San Pedro Creek Culture Park revitalizes a once-sacred creek with inspired art, splendid paseos, native plants, unique plazas, places of respite and cultural reflections. The team contained the 100-year floodplain, built bridges to the past, created additional aquatic habitat, improved water quality and connected long-separated cultures.

When all phases are complete, the project will also catalyze $1.5 billion in economic impact. Challenges were monumental, including working in an active drainage channel, near 39 historic resources, and in a creek home to prehistoric humans.

The on-schedule, on-budget project opened with a grand celebration marking the tri-centennial of San Antonio.
